Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about the Community Safety Network.
Does this affect my verification result?
No. Your verification is processed completely separately from watchlist matching. Whether you participate or not, and whether there's a match or not, has zero effect on whether your verification is approved.
What happens if I match someone on a list?
First, potential matches are reviewed by trained analysts to verify accuracy. False positives happen and we take them seriously. If a match is confirmed with high confidence, an anonymous tip is sent to relevant law enforcement. You are not contacted or notified. Your verification proceeds normally.
Can I participate sometimes but not others?
Yes. You can set a default preference in your account settings, but you can always change your choice during each individual verification. Maybe you want to participate for most verifications but not for a particular sensitive one—that's completely fine.
How do I delete my data?
If you have an Owl Eyes account, go to Dashboard → Privacy & Safety → Request Data Deletion. This removes your facial data from the matching database. It does not affect your verification records, which are retained by the businesses you verified with according to their own policies.
Who can see my information?
Only Owl Eyes security personnel reviewing potential matches. We do not share participant lists with law enforcement or anyone else. If a tip is generated, it contains only the minimal information needed (photo, name, location, date) and does not identify Owl Eyes or the business you verified with as the source.
Is this legal?
Yes. Voluntary participation in watchlist screening is legal. Similar programs exist in financial services (anti-money laundering), aviation (passenger screening), and many other industries. By explicitly choosing to participate, you're consenting to this data processing under applicable privacy laws including GDPR and CCPA.
